LEAD: Learn | Explore | Access | Demonstrate
LEAD & Mentorship Program
The LEAD & Mentorship program is designed to empower adults with IDD to access and use critical resources and supports; to strengthen positive & safe relationships in the community; and to assist participants to achieve their individualized goals.
The LEAD & Mentorship program offers two supportive engagement tracks
Personal Enrichment & Life Skills Development
The Personal Enrichment & Life Skills development track assists participants to explore topics related to: values and personal goals, respecting self and others; time management, financial awareness, preparing for employment, and social engagement and communication.
Academic Success & Exploration
The Academic Success & Exploration assists participants to increase awareness and skills to achieve academic success. This supportive engagement track allows participants to explore: study tips and skills, supportive services in post-secondary education, college connections, and social connections and communication.
Each LEAD participant is paired with a peer mentor that assists with reinforcing the skills developed in each workshop.
LEAD Stands for:
Learn
Participants will increase their knowledge respective to the LEAD Program outcomes. Participants will use their preferred learning style to engage in a variety of activities.
Access
Participants will receive access to: materials and technology in supportive formats; to a mentor to reinforce program outcomes, and a special education assistant to support their individual learning style.
Explore
Participants will engage in activities that encourage exploration of topics, asking questions, sharing perspectives, and engaging in dialogue. Participants will receive individual support in developing and reaching their goals that align with their strengths, personal interests, and values.
Demonstrate
Participants will demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge & skills; increase thier awareness and use of community resources; and strengthen positive & safe relationships in the community.
COMPETENCE
Increase’s a positive view of a person’s actions in individual and community settings
CONFIDENCE
Build’s a sense of positive self-worth, self-efficacy, identity, and belief in the future.
CONNECTION
Enhances positive bonds with peers, family, school and the community
